On 8th of November, in the french city of Gap will take place the trial of 7 militants. They stand accused of “aiding the entry of foreign nationals in an irregular situation on French territory, as part of an organized gang”. They face sentences of up to 10 years in prison and a 750’000€ fine. The solidarity is being more and more criminalized everywhere and the repression is permanent around borders namely. Collective action and massive mobilization are the only answers to refuse the racist policies of the states and smash the killing device of borders.
For this purpose, we call to the largest possible gathering of support on 8 November in front of the Gap courthouse, as well as decentralized actions of support everywhere prior and up to the date of the trial !
The solidarity with the migrants in the southern Alps, border between Italy and France.
Dozens of people are trying to pass from Italy to France by the southern Alps in the ski station of the border of Claviere-Montgenèvre.
In March 2018, a part of the Claviere’s church was occupied to provide a refuge, located some meters from the police border post. This place is a self-organized refuge named “Chez Jesus” where people who want to cross the border warm themselves, eat and have some mountain equipment, get informed about the dangers in the mountain, the laws of asylum, the rights of each person and especially the procedures for minors. Moreover, the opening of Chez Jesus has permitted the observation and the recording of testimonies about police repression and violence in the border.
On the 22nd of April 2018, “Chez Jesus” was the point of departure of a spontaneous demonstration to Briançon, which reaffirms our antifascist convictions. 300 people from several countries left the refuge for the border in response to the mediatic presence of “Generation Identitaire” (a neo-fascist European network) at the Col de l’Echelle the previous day. They patrolled the area with a helicopter, drones and jeeps to block any attempt of migrants to enter France and destroyed the path signs. As a militia, they delivered the migrants to the police and followed militants till their house in impunity. After this march, 6 solidarity people were arrested and 3 of them were accused of “aiding the entry of foreigners in irregular situation in the French territory as part of an organized gang” while there is no proof whether people without the needed documents passed the border in this march. They were put in custody, then in pre-trial detention for 1 1 days and then under house arrest for more than 25 days. The state criminalizes the presence of those who denounce the militarization of the Alps, the manhunt and the police violence against those who flee the Italian detention centers. But of course it ignores the actions of the Identarians.
It’s not the mountains that kill, but the borders. This winter, a lot of people died in the mountains full of snow while some other got seriously wounded. The everyday night-raids of police groups are accompanied by beatings, thefts, threats and end up in refoulements back to Italy. Last winter, several people lost their lives while others were seriously injured. Such was the case of Blessing, a young Nigerian woman who, on the 7th May 201 8, drowned in the river after trying to escape from a police pursue. Her identity and the witnesses of her murder were found by the militants of “Chez Jesus”, in order to expose this story and counterbalance the State’s wish to keep this situation muted. Because of that, she won’t be the “anonymous black young woman dead by an unknown cause” that the police, prosecutors and media would declare in order to hide their responsibilities.
During summer, fascists, states/politicians and priests formed an alliance against the refuge. The touristic and luxurious image of Claviere, as a ski station in
the winter and a golf course in the summer, has been replaced by the “disturbing” reality of refouled migrants, kept on hold in the village and the hiking paths. The Prefect and the church pressed charges against the illegal occupation to evacuate the refuge. “Chez Jesus” became a target for Salvini, the chief of the Italian far right government. At the same time, there was an attack in the refuge from fascists who did material damages and aggressed physically and verbally the people present.
The 10th of October “Chez Jesus” is evicted by the italian police. The next day, in Paris, Marseille, Briancon, and other cities, people protested in the streets to
manifest their anger against these european policies that criminalize solidarity and evacuate a place of great importance for the struggle against the borders. In France, Italy, Greece, solidarity is more and more considered as a crime and is persecuted by the law. On the 6th of October, thousands of people got in the streets after an international call of mobilization for the Aquarius rescue ship, which currently has no flag after Panama withdrew theirs, so that it will be able to continue life-saving operations on the Libyan coast.
The noose is tightening... The repression of our solidarity has no limits.
In July, “The 3 of Briançon” became 7 as 4 other participants of the antifascist march of the 22 April were arrested. They will all be judged on the 8th of November in Gap’s Court House (in France).
On Thursday 8th of November 2018, in the french city of Gap will take place the trial of 7 militants, four french, two swiss and one italian. They stand accused of “aiding the entry of foreign nationals in an irregular situation on French territory, as part of an organized gang”. They face sentences of up to 1 0 years in prison and a 750’000€ fine.
Because they refuse to play the game of the police, states and MGOs (keep records, control, separate, block) they are accused of facilitating the passage of migrants in France.
Because they support publicly the right of mobility they are accused for the same charges as if they were smugglers.
Because they organize themselves through horizontally and libertarian practices they are accused of acting as an “organized gang” .
This trial is eminently political. It serves as an example to dissuade any support to the migrants, endagering all type of organized solidarity by criminalizing it. In response to that, collective action and massive mobilization is essential to resist against the police and judiciary repression system. Let’s fight against the borders and the nation-states that implement them. For this purpose, we call to the largest possible gathering of support on 8 November in front of the Gap courthouse, as well as decentralized actions of support everywhere prior and up to the date of the trial !
Borders are man-made and unnatural,
it is our duty to unmake them !
RESISTANCE AND INTERNATIONAL
SOLIDARITY ARE OUR WEAPONS !
NO BORDERS! NO NATIONS!
